The Tamburlaine is the newest property to come from the Irish O’Callaghan hotel group and has recently opened in the up and coming Station Road area of Cambridge. Myself and the rest of the HotelRes team enjoyed an overnight FAM trip to experience what the hotel had to offer and view the meetings and events spaces available.
We were treated to an overnight stay with breakfast and had a lovely sit-down meal and cocktails in their in-house brasserie style restaurant before having a show round of the property and finishing up in the Garden room with Gin and tonics to round off the evening. For the meal, they had prepared a set taster menu for us to showcase the different types of dishes on offer with accompanying wines where we were able to taste a selection of their starters, main courses and desserts including Heirloom tomato and beetroot salad with focaccia, Sea bass with Thai basil mash and chorizo, iced lemon meringue parfait and a melt in the middle chocolate pudding that was quite literally heaven on a plate! 😊
We each had one of their Fresher rooms with a very comfortable huge bed and marble bathroom complete with White Company toiletries, they had left us a welcome gift of a Tamburlaine note book and pencil tin filled with jelly beans and hand written personal note welcoming us to the hotel on the desk which was a really lovely touch. The rooms have lovely décor with unique little touches like vintage style tea cups on the tea tray and retro style telephones and radios on the desks.
The whole hotel has an Instagram worthy interior with real attention to detail and little touches that echo the Irish roots of the hotel chain whilst incorporating Cambridge into the design and using a lovely mix of contemporary and classic retro, vintage style with lots of different mixes of fabrics and prints and tonal colour schemes including Cambridge blue to pull it all together along with focal pieces like oversized light fittings and rugs, statement chairs and a spiral staircase.
It’s a really nice easy-going place to go and enjoy a cocktail or two or a nice glass of wine after work or even to grab a bite to eat with friends and socialise in a relaxed atmosphere with great food and if you are coming to Cambridge for the weekend or for a residential meeting it really is an ideal base. Definitely worth a visit for the cocktails alone! 😊
It was lovely to get to know you all better Sarah, I really enjoyed the evening with you all. Thank you for the review and I’ll See you all again soon, Leanna 😊
