Meitheal 2019 – Visiting Dublin with Meet in Ireland

Dublin and its surrounding locations have a wealth of stunning and unique event spaces that are perfect for all types of events and groups, from conferences and incentives to gala dinners and workshops there is a venue to suite all event types, tastes and budgets.

I recently visited Dublin on a networking trip alongside Meet in Ireland and destination management company A Touch of Ireland and met with lots of great venues and suppliers across Dublin, Wicklow and Kildare where I was able to see and experience first hand the high standard of event facilities and team building options, renowned hospitality and service and the stunning unique venues and hotels available throughout the city and its surrounds.

Day one of the trip was spent in Dublin city centre where we visited a mix of venues and hotels which included the home of GAA sport Croke Park Stadium, the iconic Guinness storehouse with 7 floors of unique and interactive elements and vast event space, the Westin hotel where we enjoyed a Gin and Jazz lunch and a look at the stunning banking hall which is perfect for gala dinners and special events ,  Teelings Whiskey distillery which has some fantastic unique event spaces along with whiskey tasting and tour experiences , Fade Street social, a great popular restaurant not far from Grafton Street with great food and great atmosphere along with fantastic service and lastly newly opened The Grayson, a quirky bar, restaurant and cocktail venue with different floors and a stunning glass roofed bar area as well as balcony areas. As well as the site visits, we also took part in a whiskey tasting and lazy bike and walking tour activities around the city centre and had an overnight stay at the revamped Alex Hotel.

Day 2 began in Dublin with a site visit of the stunning Iveagh Garden hotel on Harcourt Street, Europe’s 1st sustainable luxury hotel.

We then headed to the Garden of Ireland – Wicklow ,where we spent the rest of the day taking in the beautiful Irish countryside and views of the Wicklow mountains with site visits of two fantastic locations, Ballyknocken House and Powerscourt Hotel.

Ballyknocken House is an amazing farm house location and the home of celebrity chef Catharine Fulvio , this is not only her family home, but it is also used for events, team building activities, a cookery school and a well-established bed and breakfast. There is a selection of event spaces and lots of outdoor space as well as lots of activity options including cookery, welly throwing, Irish dancing and sheep herding to name a few!  Ballyknocken offers a taste of real Ireland done in a 5-star way, with a warm and friendly Irish welcome!

Powerscourt hotel in Enniskerry is a beautiful 5-star destination tucked away in the countryside, nearby to the stunning Powerscourt house and estate, the hotel building itself is designed to resemble the Claddagh ring with the two hands holding the crowned heart.  Here we experienced a tour of the property and had lunch.

After the site visits, we headed to the beautiful Cliff at Lyons estate where we checked in for 2 nights and on night one enjoyed a welcome dinner with entertainment and an after-dinner whiskey tasting. Cliff at Lyons has a selection of rooms and cottages to hire in an idyllic peaceful Irish countryside setting and is an ideal luxury option for an exclusive event.

Day 3 was spent at the Citywest hotel where we met with venues and suppliers in one 2 one meetings as part of the annual Meitheal event which sees the Irish trade for the meetings and events industry come together to showcase their offerings. After the meetings we spent the afternoon at the K club hotel where we were welcomed for lunch by Irish drummers and then took part in an afternoon of outdoor activities run by well-established DMC Orangeworks, the activities included axe throwing, canoeing and making hot whiskey on the Island at the K club and a murder mystery activity in Straffan House. In the evening we went to the Aerodrome at Weston Airport to join the Irish trade for the Meitheal Gala dinner and a mix of Irish entertainment.

My trip was extended as I then spent the rest of the week back in Dublin , during these few days I stayed at the beautiful centrally located Morgan Hotel, A modern boutique style hotel in the heart of the city. The hotel is walking distance to all major points of interest in the city such as Trinity College, Grafton Street, O’Connell street, Stephens Green, Christchurch Cathedral, and the Ha’penny bridge to name a few.

Dublin has a fantastic food scene and is home to many renowned restaurants, unique dining options and stunning private dining venues as well as mix of beautiful hotels, quirky bars and cocktail spots, live music venues, a plethora of museums and galleries and a great range of unique tours and experiences to explore the city and its culture. It’s a perfect destination for meetings, events, conferences and incentive groups alike.
