One of Dublin’s most infamous streets and a bustling pedestrianised area in the heart of the city is the renowned Grafton street quarter. Full of high street shops, Irish department stores, local boutiques, quirky cafes, cool cocktail bars, traditional Irish pubs, intriguing side streets and a haven for restaurants and brunch spots to name just a few!
You will also find yourself within walking distance of some of the cities other well-known and renowned areas and points of interest such as Temple Bar, Dawson street, Dame street, Stephens green, Trinity College, the Molly Malone statue and Christchurch Cathedral amongst many others.
Stop off at The Bailey Bar on Duke street , where you can enjoy a daytime coffee, an evening Cocktail (they serve a mean Espresso martini!) or even a cheeky glass of wine! 🙂 Sitting just off Grafton street it is the perfect place for a spot of people watching over your coffee or a leisurely chilled out lunch with friends. They have a great food menu to choose from , we can vouch for their Panko prawns and Nachos and they also have the nicest scones ever complete with cream and jam!
Grafton street is a shopping hotspot and is home to Luxury department store Brown Thomas one of Ireland’s most prestigious lifestyle department stores. It houses a mix of the best designer brands and high street labels in clothing , beauty , accessories , jewellery and homeware and also offers its own corporate shopping service and a personal shopping service as well as a standalone beauty lounge located on Clarendon street just behind Brown Thomas. As well as Brown Thomas you will also find a host of high street and other Irish stores along here and nearby like Avoca as well as Stephens green shopping centre and Powerscourt Townhouse.
The five-star Westbury Hotel is also located just of Grafton street so If you are looking for a luxury high-end stay in the heart of the city you couldn’t be better placed! With the hotel’s main entrance facing Grafton street and the back entrance taking you out into Dublin’s Creative Quarter including Clarendon Street and Coppinger Row you are well placed to explore the fabulous shopping and food scene around you and it is well known for its fabulous afternoon tea on the Gallery overlooking Grafton street. The hotel is the definition of luxury and elegance and offers a chic, comfortable and classy get away for a truly memorable trip to the Irish Capital.
Balfes is also located at The Westbury Hotel and here you can enjoy one of Dublin’s most well-known brunch spots. With its New York style brasserie feel and a fabulous food menu, Balfes is one of our favourite places to visit. They have a great food and drink selection as well as a well-known breakfast and brunch offering, not to mention great coffee and great cocktails! You can sit inside in the casual seating by the bar or in the main sit-down restaurant area or sit outside in their lovely terrace area. it’s a very chic venue with a contemporary vibe and looks great on your Instagram feed!
Where better is there to socialise over a few drinks than in Dublin?! We love chilling out and catching up with friends over a few pints of Guinness and the Grafton street area is home to some of our favourite non – touristy locals scene Irish pubs like Kehoes,Bruxelles, McDaids, Lemon and Duke, O’Donoghue’s and Grogans.
As well as pubs you will also find some of Dublin’s best cocktails spots in and around the Grafton Street area such as Café en Siene, 37 Dawson street, Balfes, Farrier and Draper, The Well, Zozimus and the Side Car bar at the Westbury to name a few.
One thing we always like to do when we are in the city is take a little bit of time out and go and get a blow dry so if it’s a little bit of pampering you are after then Grafton street and it’s nearby streets have some great beauty spots to try out. Our favourite regular spot for this is Dry and Fly , they have a branches on Wicklow Street which is just off from Brown Thomas where you can go and have a bouncy blow dry with a complimentary prosecco , gin or tea and coffee (bet you can’t guess which one we usually go for!) There is also the Aveda blow dry bar in Brown Thomas beauty lounge.
There is always a buzz and an atmosphere around Grafton street and a real heart of the city feel, there is always music in the air with its varied street performers and a mix of locals and tourists alike. Experiencing Grafton street is up there with visiting some of Dublin’s most top attractions and should definitely be a part of your visit to the city.
