Beauty Talk – How to Achieve Red Carpet-Worthy Skin – Guest blog article by Amy Mia Goldsmith

The awards season is like eye-candy for us mere mortals. Sure, we do stay tuned (sometimes) for the actual shows, but let’s admit it – we mostly pay attention to the red-carpet action. Certain dresses become iconic, others we ridicule and forget, but the makeup looks, the flawless skin never lets us down. We look at the close-ups of the celeb’s faces and wonder how is it humanly possible to have such impeccable complexion.

We’re fine with one, and even ten, but when we see them all looking flawless, we first become green with envy and then say to ourselves ‘I want to get me some of that’. If you’ve ever felt this way, you’re in the right place because we’re about to unveil some serious skincare secrets. We may not have a red carpet situation any time in the foreseeable future but that doesn’t mean our skin doesn’t deserve the royal treatment.

Maybe she was born with it

Even the people who were born and blessed with naturally radiant and healthy skin know that external pollutants, stress and everything that comes with life takes a toll on the skin and that it takes a certain amount of effort to achieve and maintain great looking skin even if you were born with it. Therefore, certain essential steps are in order. The absolutely paramount step towards that glowing and plump complexion is exfoliation.

The dead cells clog our pores and make the skin look dry and patchy, so in order for any other product to do its job, you first need to shed those pesky dead cells. Many beauty gurus and even celebrities have been raving about the Clarisonic Mia 1™ Skin Cleansing System which includes a rotating brush designed to remove not only makeup residue and dirt that gathers on the face, but also to gently yet powerfully exfoliate. As it’s gentle, you can use it daily, unlike other harsher exfoliating products and ‘gadgets’, so feel free to unveil a squeaky clean complexion every morning. It’s a bit of an investment, but it’s totally worth it.

Optimum hydration

Aside from cleanliness, it seems that hydration is the thing that will save us all. Now, there used to be only moisturizer, but now we have hydrating sheet masks, face mists, hydrating serums and even certain mysterious and pricey Japanese products like SK-II – we don’t know exactly what it is, as the label only says ‘facial treatment essence’ but people swear by it and claim that it has the power to plump and transform the skin, so if it’s that good, then we’ll jump on the bandwagon.

Know your skin

Yes, there are certain products that are suitable for all skin types – such as hydrating sheet masks and face mists, because even oily skin, contrary to popular belief, should not be stripped of hydration. However, when it comes to such items like moisturizers, cleansers and toners, you have to bear your skin type in mind in order to get the optimal results. For instance, the incredible My Skin Solutions offers an incredible range of cosmeceutical skincare products, and just in case you weren’t ‘in the know’, these products contain active ingredients which are clinically proven to correct a number of skin issues from signs of aging, hyperpigmentation, acne – you name it, they’ve got you covered. Always listen to your skin, and give it the type of treatment it requires. Once the products designed to tackle your skincare concerns start doing their job, the rest is easy.

Mind what goes into your body

You’ve seen the gorgeous figures these celebs have, and those kinds of bodies don’t come from excessive alcohol, junk food, as well as caffeine and sugar – all these just make you feel and look bloated and suck the life out of your skin. Sadly, red carpet worthy-skin doesn’t come from topical solutions alone.

Take a look at what Miranda Kerr eats in a day and you’ll realize that your stomach and your pantry are due for a detox. Turn to superfoods which are packed with antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, Omega-3 fatty acids, and make sure you always have these five things in your kitchen – kale, Greek yogurt, white fish, olive oil and almonds. What goes on in the gut reflects on the face, so start loving your skin so it can love you back.

The great investment

Ok, we may not be able to afford super-fancy treatments like microdermabrasion, Anti-Aging IV treatments, laser treatments, but we can certainly get a good old cleansing massage and a good peel. There are tons of affordable facial treatments you can indulge in at your local spa, and that will suffice.

If you take good care of your skin, you won’t even need all the insanely pricey treatments, just do your best to keep the body well-fed, hydrated inside and out. Find the right skincare products for you. If you invest in quality skincare, which can come with quite the price tag alone, you will get that red carpet skin and dazzle everyone on a daily basis, and if you happen to be invited to an upscale event, so be it.
